School Assembly

Today is Holy Thursday. At school we had two assemblies to remember Holy Thursday and Good Friday. 4/5J did their assembly this morning about Holy Thursday. On Holy Thursday Jesus had his last meal with his friends, this was called the Last Supper.

We did our assembly this afternoon. Our's was about Good Friday. We acted out the story of when Jesus was arrested and nailed to the cross. We finished our assembly with Meg beating the drum to remind us that it is a very sad time.

Our Kandinsky Pictures

In maths we have been learning about 2D shapes. We completed activities in small groups based on 2D shapes. One activity was to make different shapes with geoboards, another activity was with Mrs R and we listed different shapes, their characteristics and where we see them in everyday life on a table in our maths scrap book. The third group worked on the computers and used interactive geoboards. After looking at different shapes and their properties we looked at some pictures by an artist called Kandinsky. He was know as the father of abstract art. We discovered that he used different types of 2D shapes and lines to create his art. We listed the shapes and lines we saw in his work in our scrapbooks. After looking at his art we then created our own Kandinsky influenced piece of at work. We had to use 2D shapes, congruent shapes and different types of lines like diagonal, horizontal, curved and zig zag. We all really enjoyed this activity and were very surprised when Mrs R told us we had just been doing Maths. Wow maths is everywhere and you don't even realise you are doing it.

Religion

In Religion we are reading the story of Jonah and the Whale. We have split into 5 groups and each group has to present the story in a different way to the rest of the class. One group has to orally retell the story, one group is rewriting the story in their own words, one group is miming the story, the fourth group is role playing the story and the last group is making a story board. This is going to help us understand how the same stories and events can be altered by different authors.

Decimal Bingo

We have been learning about decimal numbers and today in maths we made Decimal Number Bingo. Mrs R gave us all a piece of cardboard to make our game board. We divided it up into 12 squares. We then went out to the front of the room and rolled 3 dice. One had just ones on the faces, another had tenths on the faces and the last one had hundredths on the faces. The number we rolled becme one of the numbers we could choose to write on the spaces of our game board. We also had to write the number we made on a small card. Mrs R collected these small cards and she used them to call out the numbers. We used counters to cover the numbers on our game board when Mrs R called them out. We had two different ways of winning the game. The first way was a straight line vertically or horizontally and the second way was the whole board. We had to concentrate because our numbers were written as decimals but Mrs R called the numbers out using the words "tenths" and "hundredths".

Quilts in Maths!!

We made this class quilt by tessallating different shapes to create our patterns for our piece of the class quilt. We flipped, slid and turned the different shapes to create our designs. We then used only red, pink and white for our colour scheme.
