Children's ANZAC Day Ceremony

On Wednesday the 24th April the 4/5B, 4/5R and 4/5J classes went to the special ANZAC Day Ceremony in the city. We caught the train to ANZAC Square where the ceremony was going to take place. We sat on the ground near the front and had our morning tea while we waited. The ceremony started with a bugle playing to announce the arrival of the Governor of Queensland, the Premier of Queensland and the Lord Mayor. We listened to speeches, sang "God Bless Australia", and the New Zealand and Australian National Anthems.
During the ceremony Jarod from our class and Victoria from 4/5B took a wreath up to the Eternal Flame and laid it on the ground. After that we had 1 minute silence and listened to the Last Post being played on the bugle.

Raise The Smiles High On the Kids of Mackay

At assembly on Monday, Mrs M and 2M showed us all the toys that the school had collected for their flood relief appeal. The Year 2's wanted to collect new toys and books for the children in Mackay because they had lost everything in the floods. Our school brought in lots of toys and books and the Year 2's gave them to St Vincent dePaul to take up to Mackay.

ASSEMBLY

On Monday Mr B and 4/5B had their prayer assembly. We had a special ANZAC Day ceremony and we invited Mr C from the local RSL to join us and he spoke to us before the Assembly started. During the assembly we listened to stories about soldiers and the battle at Gallipoli. We had one minutes silence to remember all those who fought and died in the wars. We listened as the Last Post was played and we finished with the national anthem.

INTER-SCHOOL SPORT

On Friday 4th April the year 5, 6 and 7 students went out to inter-school sport. Every Friday they compete against teams from different schools. Some students go to netball, some go to soccer and some go to table tennis. At table tennis the students compete against each other rather than different schools because they are just learning how to play.

The year 5 girls came back very excited because they had won both the netball and the soccer games that they played!

While they were at sport the year 4's stayed back at school. We did catch up work because it was our last day of term before the holidays and we got to play board games and work on our individual blog folios. After second break, the year 4's split into 2 groups. One group went with mrs R and the second group went with Mr S (he is filling in for Mrs J while she is on leave helping to look after her brand new twin grandchildren). We played Kick-a-train with Mrs R which is a combination of baseball and soccer. The other group played cricket.

When we come back from holidays the groups will swap over so we will get to play the other game!
