THE OLYMPICS COMES TO 4/5R

SearchmeMaximize stack view

On Tuesday we were very lucky to have two special visitors to our room. These two gentlemen brought with them not one, not two, not three but FOUR Olympic torches to show us. One man had a replica torch from the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, a 1996 Athens Olympics torch and a 2000 Sydney Olympics torch. This man ran in the torch relays for each of these olympics which must have been very exciting and a great honour.
The other gentleman had the torch from the 2008 Beijing Olympics torch relay.
We were able to pass these torches around and have a close up look at them. We were all very surprised at how heavy the Melbourne olympics torch was and how difficult it would have been to run with it as it was not as streamlined as the other three torches were.

Year 4/5, can you see the torches that came to our room?? What about the other torches? What olympics did they come from? Leave a comment if you know!

WHAT WE ARE READING THIS TERM!!

This term we are reading the novel "The Thief Lord" by Cornelia Funke. It is a story about 2 brothers whose mother has died and they went to live with their aunt (their mother's sister). They did not like living with her and so decided to run away to Venice. They had never been to Venice before and had only heard stories of the city from their mother. When they arrived in the city they met a girl named Hornet ( because of the long plait she had down her back). Through Hornet, the boys - Prosper and Boniface - met two other boys. They all lived together in a disused theatre and worked for The Theif Lord.

4/5R GOES PINEAPPLE CRAZY!!!

Today is Queensland Day! To celebrate the day that we became a state, we made our very own Queensland Day Sunglasses. We think everyone in Queensland should have a pair of these!

EVERYDAY POEMS

In class we have been writing Everyday Poems. Everyday poems are about everyday events. They contain a line that is something SOMEONE would SAY, something SOMEONE would THINK, something YOU would SAY and a NOISE you might HEAR. You also have to REPEAT one of these lines in your poem. Here is the poem we made up in class:

The Beach
Can I go for a swim?
Swoosh, Swoosh
Mum I don't want suncream on!
Swoosh, Swoosh
Mum I don't want suncream on!
Gee does she ever listen?

QUEENSLAND DAY CELEBRATIONS

4/5R remember the questions I asked you in class about Queensland?

  • When did Queensland become a state?

  • What does our flag look like?

  • What is our floral emblem?

  • What is our fauna emblem?

These answers may give you ideas for the design of your Queensland Day mask for the competition. Remember to look on google images for pictures of Queesland to help with your design. Your design should show what it is like in Queensland and what makes Queensland special and the best place to live!

Remember to include this in your Art box on your homework grid!!
