OUR POP ART PICTURES

BubbleShare: Share photos - Find great Clip Art Images.

Last term we learnt about the famous Pop Artist Andy Warhol. We had to do a piece of work similar to his Campbell Soup Can pictures. We could choose an item of food or something from everyday life. We really enjoyed trying to copy his style of art.

NATIONAL TESTING

This week the Year 3's, 5's and 7's in our school are taking part in the national testing for Literacy and Numeracy. The tests are over 3 days - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On Tuesday there are 2 tests. On is on spelling and grammar and the other is a writing test. We had to write a narrative. Wednesday's test is a reading and comprehension test and Friday will be Numeracy. Our teachers have helped us to get ready for the test by giving us some practice questions so we are familiar with the type of questions that will be on the tests. Most of the questions are multiple choice and we are not used to answering these kind of questions. It is important with multiple choice questions that you read through all the choices they give you and choose the one that BEST answers the question!!!

After our test yesterday we were all given a lolly snake and a freddo frog to say "WELL DONE"!!

Silent Reading

Mostly every school day after first break we have Silent Reading. This is the time when everyone gets a book of their own choice and starts reading it for about 15mins to 30mins. Silent Reading is a time for us to relax and sometimes Mrs R will play some quiet music for us to listen too while reading.

HOMEWORK GRID

Year 4 and 5, I have put a new homework grid in the document box. I have deleted all the example dot points that were on the old homework grid so now you have more space to write in your own activities. Remember I expect to see more than things in each box, not just 1 activity in the whole two week period!!!

You will need to put the due date at the top when you down load it. Look out for the special activity you need to do this fortnight!!

NIM'S ISLAND

In class we are reading Nim's Island by Wendy Orr. We are up to chapter 5 and it is very exciting. The story is about a girl called Nim and her dad called Jack. They live on an island away from all those pesky tourists. No one knows where the island is and no one can get onto the island unless they have a small boat that can sail over the reef that surrounds the island. Some children in our class have seen the movie but they are not allowed to spoil the story for anyone. We might even watch the movie after we have finished the book to see how different or similar it is. That is what we did when we read Indian In The Cupboard. We found that the movie was very different to the book.

WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY

Last Friday our school participated in "Walk Safely To School Day". Children met at different places near our school and with a teacher and our parents, we all walked to school instead of being driven in the car. Lots of children took part in the activity. Each group met at a different place. Some met at the War Memorial, The Local Pool, the local High School, the train station, a local Nursing Home and at a park near our school.

Our adopt-a-cop walked with one group to make sure they crossed the roads safely! The first person to arrive at each meeting point to start the walk got a T-shirt or a drink bottle. Miyoko got a T-shirt.

When we got to school we were all given something to eat. We had bread rolls, cheese sticks, fruit and a chocolate milk.

It was a great way to start the day. We should do it more often!
